Welcome to the website of our family company

For 30 years, the family company has been devoting itself with care and respect to agriculture, forestry, hunting and the management of historical monuments - Houska Castle, Stránov Castle, Lobeč Castle and the church, which are open to the public.
"You too can see and experience the result of our thirty years of work on our buildings."

We are a family business

We are engaged in agriculture and forestry and care for three listed buildings. We manage 620 ha of farmland and 2000 ha of forest. We are professionally engaged in hunting. We run a pheasantry and a fallow deer and mouflon game preserve as well as two castles, a castle and a church.

Houska Castle and Stránov Castle are open to the public. You can stay at Lobeč and Houska castles. At Stránov, we opened and landscaped the castle garden and placed a permanent exhibition of paintings in the church in 2024. My father’s words “Things must get better” still haunt me. Every year we take a few steps forward and it is worth it.

It is the joy and worry that comes from managing a family estate. And I’m well aware that the business is based mainly on work in the fields and woods. But all the divisions contribute to the fact that we can take care of the property as a whole. We’re here for a while, we manage the property with humility, and we do everything we can to make sure we have something to pass on to the next generation.

With respect for our illustrious ancestors and love for all those involved in caring for the Simonek family estate.

The family story began in the second half of the 19th century

Family story

Our family story began in the second half of the 19th century, when my great-great-grandfather Josef Šimonek ( 1862-1934) was born. His life is reminiscent of a Hollywood movie. From a simple cottage in Stránka, he rose to the top of Austro-Hungarian and later Czechoslovak industry. He was president of the board of directors of the Skoda Works, politician and senator of the National Assembly. With the money he earned in industry he bought a chateau and court in Lobč, the Stránov castle and the Houska castle with the fields and forests that belonged to them. His work on the family estate was continued by his son František (1892-1950), a very progressive farmer under whose leadership the estate flourished. Unfortunately, he died under very strange circumstances in April 1950 in an automobile accident. We don’t know if this was an accident or part of the deliberate liquidation of influential people in the 1950s.

The next part of the family history was written under communism. My grandfather Jaromír (1922 – 1995) married Blaženka, born in 1922. Křováčková from Jizerni Vtelno and lived the rest of his life in a house in Lobč, near the castle that once belonged to him. His brother Jiří (1925-1993) joined the heavy PTP in 1952 in a mine in Kladno, which marked his whole life. For both brothers, the restitution was the satisfaction of a lifetime. Both died too soon to see the post-revolutionary development of their property. In 1995, my father Jaromír (1945-2021) took over the management of the family property, expanded the business to include forest management and the hunting and tourism divisions, and built a functioning family business. He was a member of the Board of Directors of the Chamber of Agrarian Affairs and the mayor of Lobeč. He inspired me to work in the family business and taught me to love rural life. I transferred from art history to the Czech Agricultural University and studied operational economics. Now it’s my turn and I’m doing everything I can to keep and hopefully improve on everything my ancestors collected.

FORESTRY

The forest administration of the family company is engaged in complex forestry activities, whose headquarters are located in the village of Lobeč. It was established on 1 January 1996 and the following year the Forestry Administration was awarded for its activities in the field of forestry. The forest administration is in charge of the head of the forest district and the forest sections are managed by forest officers. The forest district is divided into three sections – Revír Dražejov, Blatce and Brodce and the area of the managed forest territory is about 2 000 ha and it also manages five smaller ponds and about 75 ha of municipal forests. The tree composition of our forests is as follows: 56% BO, 12% SM, 11% BK and other tree species. All our forest estates are PEFC certified.

Cultivation activities are an integral part of our forest management, and a seed orchard (about 350 clones of Scots pine) was established in 2022 for seed collection. We supply logs, firewood and other forestry services.

Sawmill Lobeč

Since the middle of 2021, we have been operating a modern sawmill with a log band saw “Pilous CTR 800H”, on which we are able to prepare construction timber from our logs according to your requirements in very favourable terms. Since 2024, we have expanded our production to include the production of split timber on the “Bala Agri 370” splitting processor with the service of delivering split timber in bulk, containerized or flattened in crates. It is also possible to arrange the supply of other products generated during production (sawdust, trimmings, landscaping, etc.).

Hunting and pheasantry

We have been hunting professionally since 1991 in our hunting grounds “Hájek” and “Houska”, which are attractive hunting grounds, naturally varied and each about 800 ha in size.

The aforementioned hunting grounds are complemented by our “Podčejk” hunting ground, which is located in the Mladá Boleslav district and was established in 1980 with an area of 120 ha.

The “Hájek” pheasant farm, where we breed pheasants and sell venison meat, is located near the village of Strenice in the Mladá Boleslav district and was also established in 1980, with a total area of 228 ha. The operation of the pheasantry and game preserve is complemented by a newly reconstructed venison meat processing plant, which is from our own production, but we are also engaged in the purchase of venison, which we further process.

In the above-mentioned hunting grounds and game preserve we will be happy to organize fee hunts, chases and other hunting activities. Our land in the vicinity of Lobeč Chateau, combined with our pheasant game, is ideal for organizing small game hunts, which we will be happy to organize “turnkey”, including catering services.

History

The game preserve and pheasantry were established in 1980 as part of the reserved hunting grounds of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Czech Republic and since 1993 they have been part of our company.

The game preserve is situated in the valley floodplain of the Strenice stream between the villages of Strenice and Krnsko. The game preserve contains fallow deer from the Hungarian Giulla top breeding area and is supplemented by mouflon deer imported in 1998 from the “Žatecká Diana Game Preserve” and the “Velký Dub Game Preserve”. Nowadays, the point value of the mouflon trophies is close to 250 CIC points.

The “Hájek” Pheasantry, which includes a spur farm with a capacity of 2500 breeding flock, a hatchery with an annual production of 20 thousand day-old chicks and a nursery up to 8 weeks of age.
